Tired of television? The best show around may be in your sleep. Marion Woodman, a Jungian analyst, describes dreams as “messengers between the creative unconscious and consciousness.” Carl Jung suggested that dreams fill in what waking life leaves out.
Dreams illuminate our daily lives using the landscape of images, metaphors and symbols. They are most akin to poetry, theater and art in their presentation. They are infused with color, vitality and feeling. When we attempt to analyze dreams we can lose a dimension of their richness, for they defy everyday language. We call our dreams “bizarre,” “weird,” “nightmares.” How else could they get our attention?
In working with clients’ dreams either individually or in workshops I am always fascinated at how the dream reflects back the very issues being addressed in sessions. Dreams often show the path to be taken, the solution to a problem, the vignettes begging attention and the ever-changing cast of characters in the story of one’s life. If you are interested in your dreams you will enjoy working with me in the dynamic dream tending process.
